Activities stop, soldiers salute, civilians place their hands on their hearts and Reveille is played to honor the Flag as it is raised twice daily at U.S. military posts and bases across the world. In honor of our service members and veterans near and far the 2023 Summerfest will kick off with a Flag raising by the Color Guard at the Deerwood American Legion Post 557 at 8:45am on Friday August 11th. The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited following the flag raising. Veterans and Active/Reserve service members are invited to attend in-person and gather at 8:30 am.
Local businesses are requested to cease activities at that time, if possible and safe, to participate in the honor and appreciation of our nation’s flag, what it represents, and what so many have sacrificed protecting it and our country. Attendance in person at the Legion is also encouraged.
Food booths are highlighting Swedish meatballs, lefse, snow cones, hot dogs, ice cream and home made brownies!

Sheltered Reality uses drums, music and fun choreography to help audiences realize that each person we meet is unique, has special talents, and is deserving of kindness and support.
While we demonstrate the Steps of Success, audience members have a chance to succeed through participating in a drum lesson and performing with the group.
This process is meant to inspire all to become better individuals, but to also take action to help others succeed in life and be the best versions of themselves.
Sheltered Reality believes in the power of “US.” When we do things together, believe in and support one another, we can do great things. #USSIE
Sheltered Reality was founded in 1996 by Executive Director Steve Schlosser as a non-profit organization using music and education to reach out to audiences motivating them to advocate for those in need. The messages that are presented focus on facts and real-life stories from members that culminate in character education and ideas for action.
